Community Guidelines
Last updated 12 August 2026 · the rules that keep Task Party a calm, safe place to work
Task Party is a room full of strangers who show up to work, on camera, alongside each other. That only works on trust. These guidelines are how we protect it. They apply to everyone, every session. Reading them is part of joining, and hosts confirm they have read them before they can host.
Our promises to you
- We never record your sessions. Not the video, not the audio. There is no recording feature in Task Party at all. (See exactly how we handle your data.)
- Every report is read by a person. Urgent safety reports within 24 hours, everything else within 2 business days.
- Blocking is silent. Block someone and you are never put in a room together again - and they are never told.
- Decisions can be appealed. Reply to any decision email and a person will look again.
The rules
1. Respect everyone
No harassment, hate, bullying, threats, or slurs - in the room, in chat, or in your profile.
Why: Camera-on rooms only work when people feel safe. Serious harassment can also amount to illegal content that we are required to act on under the UK Online Safety Act 2023.
2. Nothing sexual, ever
No nudity, sexual behaviour, flirting, or comments on anyone's appearance. Dress as you would to work in a cafe.
Why: This is a place of work. Sexual conduct on camera with strangers is the single most serious harm on platforms like ours, so there is no warning for it - it is an immediate removal.
3. Never record another member
No screenshots, photos, or recordings of other people without their clear consent.
Why: We promise you are never recorded - that promise only holds if it binds members too. Someone's image and voice are their personal data under UK and EU GDPR; capturing them without consent is a serious breach.
4. Protect each other's privacy
No doxxing. Don't press anyone for their real name, location, workplace, or other personal details, and don't share what you learn about someone from a session.
Why: Sharing someone's private details (doxxing) can put them in real danger, and in the UK and EU it is often a criminal offence. Use the name people chose to show.
5. No selling or soliciting
No selling, recruiting, promotion, or romantic advances. Don't ask to move the conversation off Task Party.
Why: People came here to focus, not to be pitched to or asked out. Keeping the room free of that is what makes it usable.
6. One real account, and you must be 18 or over
One account per person, signed up with accurate details. You must be at least 18 to use Task Party.
Why: Accountability is our main safety layer - real people in scheduled, logged sessions behave differently from anonymous ones. Task Party is designed and stated as an adults-only service, and we act on any report of an under-18 user.
7. Keep the room on-purpose
No spam, disruption, or misuse of chat, reactions, or music.
Why: Focus is the whole product. Spamming chat, hijacking the music, or disrupting the room takes it from everyone.
8. Hosts keep the room safe - and answer to these same rules
Hosts can mute someone, turn off their camera, or remove them - to be used only when the room's safety needs it, never to shut down a disagreement. Misusing these tools is reportable, just like anything else.
Why: A host needs real tools to protect the room, but power needs accountability. Using those tools to silence disagreement, rather than to keep people safe, is itself a violation.
How enforcement works
We only escalate on a pattern - one awkward moment is not a case file. For most issues:
- A friendly note letting you know which rule was crossed.
- A formal warning, and a temporary suspension if it continues.
- A permanent ban.
Serious safety matters - threats, sexual conduct, recording someone, anything that puts a person at risk - skip straight to removal or a ban. Every decision can be appealed: reply to any decision email and a person will review it again.
Why we are this strict
Because a video room with strangers deserves it, and because the law expects it. As a service where people interact with each other, and one that serves the UK and EU, we carry real duties:
- The UK Online Safety Act 2023 requires us to assess the risk of illegal content, give you a way to report it, and run a complaints process. These guidelines and our reporting tools are how we meet that.
- The EU Digital Services Act requires clear, reasoned terms and a route to report illegal content. That is why every rule here shows its reasoning, and why safety@taskparty.co is always open.
- UK and EU GDPR govern everything we store - which is exactly why we store so little, and why we never record you.
Honestly, these frameworks describe the platform we wanted to build anyway. A calm, safe, honest place to work is the whole point.
How to report or get help
Inside a session, use the ⋯ menu on someone's tile, the flag on a message, or the "Something went wrong" link on the recap - that way we capture what happened automatically. You can also email us directly:
- Anything urgent: use the "Something urgent" tab in Settings → Safety tools (reviewed within 24 hours), or email safety@taskparty.co if you can’t sign in.
