Hosting on Task Party

Last updated 12 August 2026 · a two-minute read before you host

Hosting is simple: you open a room, welcome people in, and hold a calm space while everyone gets their work done. You don't need to teach or perform. You just need to show up and set the tone. Here's what that means.

What a host does

  • Show up. Be in your room when it starts. Life happens - if you can't make it, say "I can't make it" on the session page so a member can step in, rather than leaving people alone.
  • Welcome people. A warm hello at the start goes a long way. Say what the session is for and how it'll flow.
  • Keep the agenda you promised. Start on time, hold the focus blocks, and celebrate what people got done at the end.
  • Set a calm tone. The room takes its cue from you. Kind, unhurried, on-purpose.

Keeping your room safe

You have real tools to protect the room. You can mute someone's mic, turn off their camera, or remove them from the session. Use these only when the room's safety needs it - never to shut down a disagreement or someone you don't click with. Removing someone also sends us a report so we can follow up.

If something serious happens, remove the person - removal sends us a report automatically. You can add detail any time via the "Something urgent" tab in Settings → Safety tools. We review urgent reports within 24 hours. Hosts are held to the same Community Guidelines as everyone else, and misusing the host tools is itself reportable.

The basics everyone agrees to

  • Be kind. No harassment, hate, or anything sexual - ever.
  • Never record or screenshot a member. We never record sessions, and neither may you.
  • Task Party is for adults (18+), one real account per person.

How hosting pays you back

Run 10 sessions in a month and your host benefits unlock. One quiet month is fine - your benefit carries through; two quiet months in a row pause it until you hit 10 again. A quiet room never counts against you; keeping rooms busy is our job, not yours.

See exactly how host benefits work.

That's the essence of it. When you're ready for the deeper how-to - running the welcome, handling breaks, sharing music, tricky moments - the full Host Playbook lives in our Help Center.
